Red and Yellow Design’s hand-made bentwood box rattles are hand-crafted by Peter Gong and Matt Gong in their Mission, BC workshop. Remarkably, these rattles are made from actual tiny bentwood boxes that are made the same way as the larger boxes. Making them this small takes a higher degree of skill and precision - as does the complexity of the "canoe box" shape.
Each rattle is filled just enough copper beads to produce a pleasing sound when shaken. While most frequently purchased as legacy gifts for children or a unique display item, these utilitarian works of art are also used in the traditional way at ceremonies and cultural events.
Like all our handmade cedar products, these rattles smell great and each one is completely unique in the world due to the variance in wood grain and evidence of the “artist’s hand” in the creation process.
